Happy Hearts Day!

I never used to decorate for the “other holidays”. Sure, I’d do it up big time for Fall and Christmas, but pastels just aren’t my thing and it seems like pink and red are the only options for Valentine’s decor.

Enter Chalk Couture.

Who knew this little start up company would revolutionize home decor? Now you can mix and match to create something just right for YOUR home! You’re not stuck with big box stores and “cookie cutter” signs.

Check out a few of the different items I created for our home.

While working on a custom order for a friend, my daughter commented on the teal heart I had made. She was drawn to something unique and different too! Of course I had to make her a version of that teal heart. I added some gold accents, a “love you” sentiment and my very favorite embellishment… jute! The house cutout just seemed to fit right along with it, so I added some arrows from the latest Club Couture subscription transfer and Voila!

Of course the traditional pink and red work well for many folks, too. I love that I can “grunge” it up a little and make it fit my rustic decor or leave it “as is” for a classic look. It’s just SO. MUCH. FUN! I can spend hours creating with supplies that I’ve acquired over the past few months and see what comes to mind. Sometimes it just “speaks” to me and I know just what it needs!

See these cute little paper doilies? A fun find on the local dollar auction site! You guessed it – I snagged a vintage pack of those for just $1! I think I’ll mod podge this one on and maybe grunge it up a bit more, but it turned out so cute. Sometimes I have to leave it for a day or two and see what I might want to change.

Such was the case with this long, narrow board in the feature photo, too. I had a local craftsman make several framed boards for me, so I have quite a stash. This one featured a simple “Fa La La” design for the holidays, but now that I’ve grown accustomed to repurposing everything and reusing surfaces, I couldn’t bear to simply put the board away until next year.

Thanks to the magic of Chalk Couture, I washed off the holiday design and added part of the “XOXO” design from an 18×18 inch transfer – it was the final touch on a super cute Valentine’s display that greets us every time we enter!

Another dollar site score was this vintage sheet music. While I normally love to save those kinds of things, this one was full of incomplete music, a few ripped pages and most were falling apart. Perfect for home decor and I didn’t have to feel guilty about cutting it up! I started with an idea from Pinterest and then made it my own. Again, those paper doilies came into play. The farmhouse beads are still up from my Christmas mantel along with some winter greenery. I simply added in a few hearts with the greenery, whipped up the banner using sheet music and the  Heart Cutouts transfer and another project was complete!

I purchased the heart cutouts and house cutouts from Chalk Couture of course because I just couldn’t pass them up! They are so dang cute and versatile for use all year long. Who doesn’t need a little reminder of the love that surrounds us every single day?

Besides a couple Chalk Couture  transfers and paste, many of the other items were from my own little craft stash! So look around you – can you paint the back side of that boring little frame? Maybe find something at your local thrift store and repurpose it?

I wish I was better at taking “before” pictures… this one was a cheesy “best friends” frame that wasn’t even real paper – just a design printed onto the wooden backing. I removed the ugly fake flowers, added a piece of scrapbook paper that I had on hand, then chalked a design on the front of the glass. You can see the process here in my video.

Making your home unique and beautiful doesn’t have to be expensive! Use what you have on hand, check your local thrift store, or pick up some ugly surfaces from the clearance section. You just never know what you might come up with! 🙂

Message me if you have any questions about the projects I’ve shared. I’d be happy to help you jump in with Chalk Couture! I promise, it’s so much fun!

Keep on creating, friends!

God bless.
